Electric cycling to the Teide with the Olmo E-bro

19 October 2023

Many cyclists have only one goal when they arrive in Tenerife, namely to climb Mount Teide by bike. Mount Teide is a volcano at 3,715 meters and is the central point of Tenerife. A must for every cyclist who wants to take on a challenge. But you cannot climb Mount Teide by bike without some basic fitness. You easily climb 50 km and gain 2,300 meters of altitude.

What used to seem impossible has now become a reality. With the Olmo E-bro electric bicycle, you can easily reach the El Teide National Park.

Caroline and Geert tested the Olmo E-bro in different intensities and the result is positive. The Olmo E-bro is a bicycle for both good and less-trained cyclists. If you are a good cyclist, the capacity of the main battery (500 Wh) is sufficient. If you are less trained or want to go climb full gas to the Teide, we recommend plugging in an extra battery. This ensures that you have a range of 750 Wh, namely the main battery of 500 Wh and the additional battery of 250 Wh.

Geert and Caroline tested the Olmo bicycles to El Teide. They climbed the Teide via Granadilla to Vilaflor and then reached El Teide. They wanted to go to the cable car as well, a ride of about 135 kilometers with about 2,600 meters of elevation gain.

Geert and Caroline are two semi-trained cyclists. They did the test with Olmo E-bro 2.0 with an extra battery. They started from sea level to Granadilla and had a drink at a local bar. Granadilla is located at an altitude of 650 meters. In Granadilla, Caroline still had 82% main battery and 88% extra battery left and Geert had 83% main battery and 100% extra battery.

After the coffee, they continued the climb from Granadilla to Vilaflor. Vilaflor is located at an altitude of 1400 meters. Once in Vilaflor, Caroline still had 64% main battery and 70% extra battery left and Geert had 75% main battery and 78% extra battery.

“After a hard day in the saddle, they had completed a ride of 135 kilometers and 2,800 meters of altitude. The main battery was still 30% and the auxiliary battery 23%.”

The last part from Vilaflor to El Teide is another 12 km at 6.6%. If you then cycle up to the panel of Teide Parque Nacional, you have reached an altitude of 2200 meters. Both Olmo bikes had approximately 50% main battery and 40% extra battery remaining.

The same route via Granadilla to Vilaflor to Teide was tested again with the same people but at a higher intensity. When Geert and Caroline arrived in Vilaflor at an altitude of 1400 meters after 40 km of climbing, Caroline's main battery was still 58% and extra battery 54%, and Geert's main battery was still 64% and extra battery 59%.

When they continued their way from Vilaflor to El Teide, Caroline still had 30% main battery and 27% extra battery , and Geert had 43% main battery and 37% extra battery when reaching El Teide

To give a clear comparison, Geert and Caroline cycled 6 km/h faster uphill in modes 3 and 4 than in modes 1 and 2. This was still sufficient to climb the Teide with a surplus of battery power.

The Olmo E-bike is the best electric bicycle for climbing Mount Teide. But will also allow you to enjoy the tough climbs on the island.
